you need to make sure you highlight your main avatar then create and lock the animator view

if you follow the read me you should have a clone with the animator and the effect prefab on it . at this point all you have to do is turn on your clone and turn off the mesh render on your main avatar body

that might be if you are using sdk 2.0 and its a 3.0 script.
