I agree with raven, too many polygons

theres one slight problem, when ever I decimate the model and I click away for 10 seconds, it just goes back to 100.. how can I fix this

aren't avatars supposed to be under 20k polygons

uh I have a problem.. there are 39758 polygons and I can't really publish it..
