War Machine (James Rupert "Rhodey" Rhodes) is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Jim Rhodes first appeared in Iron Man #118 (January 1979) by David Michelinie and John Byrne. The War Machine armor, which became his signature armored battlesuit, was created by Len Kaminski and Kevin Hopgood.

In 2012, War Machine was ranked 31st in IGN's list of "The Top 50 Avengers". The character has been featured in the Iron Man animated series, the Iron Man: Armored Adventures series, and the animated film The Invincible Iron Man. USAF Lt.Colonel James Rhodes was portrayed by Terrence Howard in Iron Man, which takes place before Rhodes took on the War Machine mantle, and by Don Cheadle as a USAF Colonel in Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and is expected to do so in the fourth Avengers film.
