A Lexington Class Aircraft Carrier, The Saratoga was the third CV launched by the United States Navy. She was based on the hull of a battlecruiser that was cancelled as a result of the Washington Naval Treaty. Because of this, she featured thick armor, and was the largest American CV until the Midway Class of 1945.
